Measurement of the optical Stark effect in semiconducting carbon nanotubes

چکیده
A strong optical Stark effect has been observed in (6,5) semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes by femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. The response is characterized by an instantaneous blueshift of the excitonic resonance upon application of pump radiation at photon energy well below the band gap. The large Stark effect is attributed to the enhanced Coulomb interactions present in these one-dimensional materials. PACS 42.50.Hz · 71.35.-y · 78.67.Ch

Possibilities for Bose-Einstein condensation in individual carbon nanotubes
We show that carbon nanotubes (CNs) offer a testing ground to study the fundamentals of condensed matter physics in one dimension (1D). Specifically, we discuss possibilities for the 1D Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) phenomenon that originates from the strong coupling of excitons and low-energy inter-band plasmons enabled via the quantum confined Stark effect by using an external electrostati...

Time-resolved anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy has been applied to probe the dynamics of optical phonons created in single-walled carbon nanotubes by femtosecond laser excitation. From measurement of the decay of the anti-Stokes Raman signal in semiconducting nanotubes of (6,5) chiral index, a room-temperature lifetime for G-mode phonons of 1.1+/-0.2 ps has been determined. This lifetime, which r...
متن کاملEmpirical Equation Based Chirality (n, m) Assignment of Semiconducting Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes from Resonant Raman Scattering Data
This work presents a technique for the chirality (n, m) assignment of semiconducting single wall carbon nanotubes by solving a set of empirical equations of the tight binding model parameters. The empirical equations of the nearest neighbor hopping parameters, relating the term (2n, m) with the first and second optical transition energies of the semiconducting single wall carbon nanotubes, are ...
متن کاملPhotocatalysis-induced selective decoration of semiconducting single walled carbon nanotubes: hole-doping effect.
We have examined the time-dependent effect of the titanium oxide photocatalysis on N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone individually dispersed single walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) suspensions. From optical spectroscopic studies, we found a selective decoration of the semiconducting tubes. Such selectivity is attributed to the preferential attack of the photogenerated active species on the hole-doped semicond...
متن کاملExciton ionization, Franz-Keldysh, and Stark effects in carbon nanotubes.
We calculate the optical properties of carbon nanotubes in an external static electric field directed along the tube axis. We predict strong Franz-Keldysh oscillations in the first and second band-to-band absorption peaks, quadratic Stark effect of the first two excitons, and the field dependence of the bound exciton ionization rate for a wide range of tube chiralities. We find that the phonon-...
